Now that health reform is a reality, there’s finally enough time to step back and figure out all the ins and outs of the bill.  One little-known provision will allow physicians to bypass Medicare’s Physician Quality Reporting Initiative and instead get credit for quality reporting by using the systems built into their licensing processes. How this will work is still unclear, but doctors familiar with the provision are optimistic that it could mean fewer headaches.

Learn about this, the status of the Medicare physician pay cut, and the politics of implementing health reform in this week’s edition of the Policy & Practice Podcast.

  1. Thanks for mentioning the Texas Medical Association petition drive to stop the “Medicare Meltdown.”

Medicare is crumbling. What good is a health plan if you can’t find a doctor? We need a rational Medicare physician payment system that automatically keeps up with the cost of running a practice and is backed by a fair, stable funding formula.
